- Phanishwar Nath 'Renu' (1921–1977), novelist
Phanishwar Nath 'Renu' was born on 4 March 1921 at village
in Araria and Forbesganj. He did his Matriculation from Biratnagar Adarsh Vidyalaya(school), Biratnagar, Nepal while staying with Koirala Family.
After Passing out IA from Kashi Hindu Vishvavidyalay (university) in 1942
he took part in the Indian Freedom Struggle. Later he participated in the
Nepali revolutionary movement in 1950 which resulted in the establishment
of democracy in Nepal. He ushered in 'Anchalik-katha' (Regional Story) of
Agyey - his contemporary poet. A biography on the writer has also been produced with the name: Phanishwar Nath ‘Renu’ in Unki Nazar Unka Shahar.

in 1998. He entered politics through the Students' Federation of India,
the CPM’s youth wing, and is still remembered in these parts as a firebrand
leader who took up the cause of the landless and the poor. He represented
Purnia four times in the Assembly between 1980 and 1998 for 18 years until
14 June 1998 when he was gunned down with his driver Harendra Sharma
and party worker Ashfaqur Rehman in broad daylight at Subhash Nagar in Purnea.
His son Amit Sarkar is also a politician, active in his father's constituency
